One Man Conglomerate, #04. Ordinary people will be smarter. [PART I]

The following is English version of Chapter 2 of ‘One Man Conglomerate’, published in August 2023 by Do-Jeon, Marcus, Jeong.

2nd Chat: How will our lives changes?

#04. Ordinary people will be smarter.

[01] Tasks and work levels will be leveled upwards.

The level of work (or tasks) of those who utilize generative AI models, including ChatGPT, will be up-leveled, meaning that even a novice or a beginner in the field will be able to show a certain level of quality if they use generative AI well.

Two of the most obvious areas to be leveled up are writing (or documentation) and coding. Examples of writing include emails, speeches, essays, articles, search engine optimized posts (for marketing purposes or blog posts), YouTube scripts, novels, poems, papers, and reports (including PowerPoint documents), and the quality of writing in English is still much better than in Korean.

In particular, the task of creating PowerPoint reports, which has been quite painful for office workers, can be significantly reduced by utilizing Gamma.app, Tome, MS PowerPoint (Copilot), etc.

The level of coding and debugging in ChatGPT is also revolutionary. This is because people who don’t know any programming languages can now create any program (including web and apps) in natural language (human language).

Of course, knowing some programming languages will make your work more efficient, but even if you don’t know any, you’ll still be able to achieve your goal, because ChatGPT explains it in great detail. Finally, a true no-code tool was born. And of course, the technology will continue to improve.

That’s why Matt Welsh (former professor of computer science at Harvard and former engineering lead at Google) claimed that generative AI will bring about The End of Programming within three years.

Moreover, the use of generative AI models in other fields mentioned above (image and video creation, video editing, 3D modeling, composition, etc.) will significantly improve the level of work and efficiency in those fields.

[01-1] We’ll be able to multitask everywhere.

Multitasking (doing multiple things at the same time) will be possible everywhere. AI will be ubiquitous, both on and off line, and communication between AI models will become commonplace.

In addition, if we are truly multimodal, we will be able to create content (e.g., video editing, designing or redesigning, composing, writing, calculating and analyzing data, coding, etc.), including documents (e.g., reports, articles), while walking down the street or driving a car.

For example, we will be able to create a PowerPoint presentation using only our voice while driving and change the template design of the presentation with photos or videos taken from our car’s dashcam or smart glasses.

And then, using voice-enabled AI, we can report to our foreign boss and summarize his or her feedback. Of course, at this time, we are already developing on another reports.

[02] Consumers will get smarter.

Consumers can still be smart now. However, the process of being smart is a little cumbersome and time consuming. For example, in order to compare a number of competing products (or products or services below) for the purpose of purchase, consumers should search Internet cafes and blogs one by one to organize product-related information and carefully check buyers’ reviews. Of course, there are times when you can’t find the information you want, even if you spend this time.

However, ChatGPT makes it much easier to compare the information you want. Specifically, you can tell ChatGPT the products you need to compare (for example, model name) and order them to ‘recommend a product that is more suitable for you after comparing them’.

For example, I actually asked ChatGPT, “I am a student who often shoots videos. After comparing Galaxy S22 and S23 in a table, please recommend a product that is more suitable for me,” and he answered as follows.

“The Galaxy S22 and S23 are both smartphones released by Samsung, and there are a lot of upgrades compared to the previous model. Camera performance is especially important when filming frequently, and the Galaxy S23 is superior to the S22 due to its high resolution and good color reproduction capabilities. However, the S22 also has excellent camera performance and features such as displays make it a good idea to compare them before purchasing.

Below is a table comparing the key features of the Galaxy S22 and S23.

Cls. Galaxy S22 Galaxy S23
Camera Rear: 10 MP 3x f/2.4
Front: 12 MP f2.2
Rear: 10 MP f/2.0
Front: 10 MP f2.2
Display 6.1″
2400 X 1080 FHD+
Dynamic AMOLED 2X

2340 X 1080 Flat FHD+
Dynamic AMOLED 2X
Battery 3700 mAh 3900 mAh
Dimensions 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm 152.1 x 71.8 x 7.4 mm
Weight 171g 167g

Note: Of course, if ChatGPT uses distorted data, the above information may be incorrect.

As you can see from the table above, the Galaxy S23 outperforms the Galaxy S22 in terms of camera performance and battery capacity. The display, size, and weight are almost the same, so the difference is minimal. Therefore, if you’re a frequent video shooter, I’d recommend the Galaxy S23.

Of course, if I ask for more specific questions (for example, adding plans and prices by data usage, etc.) or adding an iPhone to compare, he doesn’t get annoyed and answers in good faith. In the future, this comparison will be able to be extended to various areas such as services and real estate (buildings and land), as well as products (or goods).

Of course, ChatGPT is still quite vulnerable to questions about specialties (e.g., legal, tax, etc.), but this situation will not last long. This is because many users are still learning ChatGPT hard at this time. Of course, someone may share a fine-tuned (additional learning) GPT model for free in a specific specialized field.

However, one thing to note is that in order to trust the above answer, ① you must have even a little relevant knowledge or ② there should be no distortion or falsehood in the materials that ChatGPT has learned or referenced (especially articles, blog posts, related websites, etc.).
